john deere 440 crawler loader ( joy stick control?)

Post by ckutz1985 » Thu Jun 06, 2013 12:05 pm

I would like to replace my existing valve controls with a single joy stick . Is there a special one I need to get to do this? Or can I make any one work. I was looking at one out of northern tools one is called regenerating and one is not. What is the difference?

Regenerative valving is used to make a cylinder work faster in one direction than another and isn't what you need for a loader.

YOu will need a valve that will handle about 15GPM, and adjustable pressure down to 1500PSI or less, open center.

Not a very hard conversion, I'm not familiar with the 440 controls so I can say how hard it would be to make a joystick configuration for your existing valve. but mounting a new valve is not hard, find a way to bolt it to the machine and hook up your hoses, done.

Here are two valve, first is higher GPM and cheaper, but take measurements and port locations into consideration for ease of mounting.

In the last few weeks I finished replacing the entire hydraulic system on my 440; kind wish I would have known this was a viable option. Anyway, should be a fairly simple conversion with some minor fabrication work for the new mount.

I think they offered a joystick control from the factory but it did not work out well as it constantly needed adjusted.

The joystick you are referring to was on the Pilot Touch crawlers, and was for the steering and reverser, not loader controls.
