New water temp gauge 350c

I just replaced water temp gauge on my 1975 350c with a gauge for a 350c. The old one had two posts for wires and the bulb conn. The new one has three posts plus spade for bulb conn. The old gauge had two wires connected together and hooked to the left side post as you sit in dozer these two wires were hot. The single wire was on right side and this does not have power. The new gauge has positive spade on bottom- ground spade on top Then there is another spade in middle. When I wired it up hot and ground the needle went to middle of green. My question is of these two wires that are connected together is one of them to go on third spade. and what is the middle spade for. Gauge did not come with any diagram. Thanks for any information. Found the answer on a post from 440 Iron Popper after reading post understand the wiring. Thanks again Bob
