450-C dozer chains

Post by johnwesley » Tue Jul 16, 2013 7:06 am

Hi Guys,
Been a member here for sometime, always enjoyed reading others posts. Now I have a problem. Does anyone know of a place to buy good used dozer chains to fit a 450-C dozer in East Texas on a line east from Houston to Dallas to the Louisiana line?

I hate to say it, but you have a set of used dozer chains, why buy another?

Lavoy,
What I have is a set of completely worn out track chains. I know sometimes dozer are parted out with good tracks or chains. This dozer is on my tree farm and sees 50-75 hours a year, mostly with a timber rake attached.

Very seldom do crawlers get parted out with good rails, or more correctly, good rails with good pins and bushings. By the time the machine is too bad to fix, and gets parted out, inevitably the rails are shot too. If they aren't shot, most likely the price will be not far off from new. Factor in that even a good set of rails will likely have 50 pins and bushings, the price will probably be 75% of new.

Hi John-

If I were you I would keep an eye out on the major construction equipment auction sites such as Ritchie Brothers. Every once in a while you will see a set of new or lightly used tracks for the middle aged crawlers like 450Cs.

Also I would not limit yourself to a specific geography- even though shipping is not cheap you could still come out ahead shipping from a different part of the country if you can by the tracks themselves cheap enough. Most auction sites have running accounts with major shippers that will give you a quote before you bid.
