1975 350c won,t start

Post by truck209 » Thu Jul 25, 2013 2:10 am

I own this dozer for all most 4 years. Never driven it due to leg injury 5 yrs ago. Bought for camp use, friends use it who are loggers at camp and know how to run it. Been using it for five or six days now and they have to keep adding oil alot. Yesterday they went to start it up and it wouldn,t start. They changed fuel filter and still didn,t start. They talked to someone who said it,s probably the head gasket. This is what were planning to do. Any info would be greatly thank full. Once I get the engine numbers where can I order gasket online. Thanks Bob

For starters I'd do a compression test before I started thinking about replacing a head gasket. Others here are much more knowledgeable than I am, but I'd test to see if the injection pump is spraying fuel before anything else. Even check to make sure the fuel is being pumped to the injection pump.

Also, you should describe in a little bit more detail about the oil they are adding, to the engine? How much oil is being added for every 5 hours of running time? Where is it going, is it smoking? Can you see oil in the coolant, or coolant in the oil? Are there any new drips anywhere?

Anyway, there are plenty of things much cheaper than a head gasket that can prevent an engine from starting.

Start with the injection pump. If it has an electric selenoid is it getting power? A Deere engine will run when they are completely worn out. Do some more homework before pulling the head.

Did the crawler have good power? That's a lot of oil consumption.
