Steering clutch

Post by AllenS » Sat Aug 03, 2013 12:02 pm

Sometimes when I pull back on the left steering lever, it wants to slow down the crawler, instead of locking up that side to turn. Especially noticeable when going up a hill. Something must be too tight, but what?

sounds like your left clutch may not be releasing (no fingers? no bearing?oil swelling the fibers?)

Maybe it's the left brake band not gripping, but the clutch is releasing. What does "slow down the dozer" mean? Is the machine movement deceasing or are the engine rpms decreasing? gregjo1948

Slow down the dozer means that when going up a hill and I pull on the left steering lever the machine will come to a stop. By the way, this is a 40C. When I first start using it, everything seems ok, but after an hour or two is when there is a problem.

Sounds like the problem is your right side clutch is slipping. Might be in need of adjustment or may be too worn discs or possibly oil has leaked on it from a bad seal. gregjo1948

Will check out helpful hints. Probably will have more questions, but...

Thanks.
