Lindeman Axle & Sprocket

Post by joeherink » Mon Aug 05, 2013 3:16 pm

I have a very loose axle to sprocket fit that needs to be repaired. They used a pipe for a spacer that fit over the splined axle between the inboard of the sprocket and the tractor housing. Then drilled and tapped the end of the axle and put another spacer on the outboard held on by a bolt and heavy duty washer made out of 1/2" plate. The sprocket was put in between both spacers and that setup allowed the sprocket a 1/2" or so to move laterally on the axle. It also really wore the inside splines of the sprocket and the axle splines. Based on the amount of wear it was operated this way for quite some time. Looks like a common problem remedied by welding based on my internet searches. Could also drill and pin? What is the recommended repair method for this problem? 1945 BO Lindeman
