450c newbie

Hello I am new to the JD world and the crawlers. I recently purchased a 450c at auction. It has a few issues here and there. Im having a hard time finding what i need in the service manual and on the JD parts cataloge online. The fuel lines on top of the injectors leak and i just cant find the right parts. there is a T fiting on the top of the injectors with lines on each side secured by a brass nut an a rubber washer inside. The online parts diagram shows two different setups but neither look like the one i have. Any help is apreciated thanks. :D

As you likely know already the lines at the top are return lines back to the fuel tank and are usually at low pressure. I have seen many different do it yourself replacements from the original and you likely have one of them. It could be that the line to your fuel tank in plugged and causing them to leak as it would create higher pressure. The dealer sells all the original parts or you could do like many before and come up with something using hose and clamps. As long as the return to the tank is clear it will not build up much pressure. The Tank also has a vent that can plug and cause problems although usually a vacuum.

Ok I will look into the vent on the tank and the return line. Is the vent in the fuel cap?

Under the fuel cap the vent is the small hole/pipe that goes down and out at the bottom of the tank. Usually a coat hanger or compressed air can be used to clear it out. If your return line is blocked try compressed air, from the hose at the top of your injector pump. It is the one that goes to the T's on the injectors back to the fuel tank. loosen the fuel cap so the air can escape easily.

I have a 1984 JD 455D Track Loader. Last year my return fuel lines were leaking just enough to concern me also. I envisioned working the machine and suddenly it would erupt into a mushroom cloud of fire, but alas, it didn't happen. This was my problem. I used a lite gauge coat hanger to clear it. Under the tank where the vent line exited the vent line was plugged by a mud dobber wasp. After I cleared it, Voila !!! No More Leak. Try this free fix first. Frank
