2-53 blower repair. 440 JD Crawler

Post by Flurrdogg » Fri Oct 04, 2013 9:16 am

Hello Im new to the forum and I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of the 2-53 blower system? I have a 440 Crawler loader and Everything works except blower. Does any one know if there is a emergency shut down on this type of blower. I know on the 4-53 and up they usually have a emergency shut off. My book show's nothing on the 2-53 emergency Air shut off. I am looking to Possibly buy a rebuild kit for the blower which is fairly in expensive I also know that the shaft drive for the blower some times sheer's off . I have not yet taken blower off but was looking for some advice before I dive right into taking the blower off and dismantling for repair.. Also if it is the shaft drive that sheered off does anyone know the exact size or part number of shaft. I found a shaft for a 53 series blower but it doesnt specify if its for the 2-53 or 3-53 type blower. anyhelp would be great.... Thanks for input. :?

Deere doesn't use the emergency shutoff. I am probably not the one to ask on parts for that piece other than Detroit.

Ok thanks for trying.. I know detroit's have air shut off's but wasnt sure on the 2-53 model the larger diesel's tend to have the shut off's installed on them.

I'm working on. 6V92 Silver and it doesn't have one on it either.
The blower seal has failed and it is dumping way too much oil into the engine.
They were adding a gallon each morning just before putting er back to work

Duke My crawler isn't dumping oil it simply wont start because there's no blower movement at all. I am going to take the blower off to take a look this week some time. Just waiting for the rain to stop so I can seal the motor off from rain once I take the blower off.

Michigan Turbo should have all the parts you need.

The 2-53 they put in the 440 didn't have the shut-off. Shortly after that they started putting the shut-off on them.
I've seen numerous blowers on ebay for the 2-53 that have the shut-off but they aren't for the 440. I think most of them were on the marine engines.
You might be able to put a blower with the air shut off on there.

Hey Ben Thanks for the info I didnt think my 440 had one but I couldnt be sure. You are right about the shut off on the marine diesel's I worked on a few in the navy but they were much larger engine's. I will be pulling the blower this week to take a look and see what the problem is. hopefully there isnt any major damage. I bought the tractor from a guy who said it was running great before he parked it but I believe he was just telling my what I wanted to hear. any ways thanks for the input. I will repost once I get it pulled and can look at it.

I had heard these blowers are infamous for blower shaft being stripped out, I am taking it out this weekend, We just had a good storm come through last night taking down some tree's would be nice to have this crawler running so I could go help a few people out. Just wish I had more time. I am also in the woods on my spare time trying to arrow a deer but having no luck seeing anything but black bears... Oh well guess thats New England for ya..

oh by the way duke, Michigan turbo has only turbo chargers not blower's and most are for newer diesel's, thanks for the link though.
