JD Crawler
I have an older JD crawler I pick up at an auction. The right steering is locked on it, otherwise it runs good. A tag on the dash stated Model 810-820 serial no 238. Is their any where else to find a serial number. I think it is either a 430 or a 1010 from your pictures on the site. I would like to get a manuel to be able to take it apart. When i bring it the 810-820 it only gives me a farm tractor Thanks for any information.
Congratulations you are member number 4000 WELCOME ABOARD ...... 810/820 is the loader number it would be a 1010 or 2010 with the tag near the dash i would say 1010 ..are the front idlers spokes or solid ? spoke is 1010.....the tractor ser# would be on the right side of the engine near the oil filter/generator it will be a tag with 4 rivets holding it on sometimes they have been removed if so you will see where it was.. if it is a later machine the tag maybe elsewhere .... i would say with that low of ser# on the loader it would be an early i know on 2010 the later ones it was above the starter on the bell housing i don't know if they moved it on the later 1010s or not...... AS WE TELL EVERY ONE PICS! PICS! AND MORE PICS! and parts and service manuals are a MUST to have.....Where is the air intake in the left hole in the loader above the dash or on the right side of the hood just in front of the loader frame above the dash? left is 2010 right and forward is 1010 ....
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper
Of course the 430 to 1010/2010 id is easy a 430 is two cylinder and the 1010/2010 are four cylinder.

Thanks for the great information. I have worked on a lot of old case crawlers, but this is my first JD. I now know I have a 1010. I am going to restore this one if I can get the steering clutch figure out!! Again thanks!!!
Get both parts and service manuals, they are invaluable.

Yes, they are. Service tells you how-to. Parts has all those wonderful exploded-view diagrams, plus those numbers do come in handy.

FYI, to get you started the parts manual is available free online in PDF format from Deere at this link:

Just search for "1010" and you will find it. You will need both the PC 727 and PC 704 manual. Don't get confused by the loader- that is considered an attachment and the parts manual for it (PC 727) will only show the loader assembly- you would still need the base crawler parts manual (PC 704).
