1955 40 Front mounted cylinder????

Post by Timberwolf13 » Mon Nov 25, 2013 5:06 pm

This may be a stupid question or I may just not have been paying much attention recently but here we go...What's up with the single front mounted hydraulic cylinder?
I saw one like this today. It's a 55 model 40. The arms are inside mount but there is a frame up in front of the grill with a large single cylinder operating the blade. Looks more like an aftermarket snow plow for a pickup than the typical crawler setup. Is this common? Or is this something someone has homemade or what? I really like the crawler cause it's got a 4 roller track but I just don't know what to think about the cylinder setup. If this is common and I've just never noticed then just look over me but I'm just wondering, what are the pros and cons to this setup?
Any info would be very helpful

That is a home made setup. I have seen many of them, but I am leery of setup like that. It transfers all of the up and down stress to the engine block, and I am not a fan of that.

I was afraid of that. It def looks a lil crazy. I don't think I'd like that whole mess too much. Thanks for the info
