Howdy gang,
It's been a while since I reported here but, after I got my RM CBC injection pump (off my 1968 JD 450) "rebuilt" by the local fuel injection shop, I started having starting problems. Things got to where the engine simply would not start without "ether". Upon inspection, I discovered that the injection pump was leaking somewhere out the back end where the 4 injection lines attach...and where the throttle tube enters the pump. It is NOT A SIMPLE matter to determine exactly where such a system is leaking fuel. The fuel is very mobile and spreads all over everything in seconds. Of course, I suspected the banjo bolts that connect the injection lines. I even replaced the stock steel washers with copper washers....no change in the leak. Finally, after a lengthy session with brake cleaner to dry things off and a friend starting the engine over and over, I decided that the leak was coming from the end cap on the pump. The guy at the injection shop told me that, in 30 years, he's never seen a pump leak there.....but that's where my pump seems to be leaking.
I've removed the pump and returned it to the injection shop. I'll report back here when they finish evaluating it.
Thanks again for all the assistance you experienced old-timers have given me with my new "project", the JD 450. I'm getting kinda attached to this old dog and it sure is good to have a resource like this forum to go to when problems arise.

OK, they DID find a leak in the cap (transfer pump housing) and fixed it for "free".
I say "free" because it only cost about 3 hours of effort, a gallon of antifreeze, and a few grunts and groans.
I'll report back when I get the pump back on the tractor and see if reliable starting returns.

Good to see you got it fixed. I'm curious though, where does the anti freeze come into the pump R & R? I rebuilt my pump after the governor assembly decided to do the mouse turd thing. I didn't remove any coolant lines.
Since I've done my repair I've had a small fuel weeping leak in that same are. Not quite sure of where it's coming from and it's not that bad, yet. I'm hoping is from the steel banjo fitting gaskets but I think it's the o-ring that goes around what is called the hydraulic head assembly which means i need to pull the pump off replace it again.
