MC and 40c differences

Post by Cajun Homesteader » Sun Dec 08, 2013 9:41 pm

I need someone to please tell me what can be interchanged between a MC and a 3 roller 40c. I inherited a 1952 MC Ser# 16179 from my grandfather and I traded for a 1953 3 roller 40C Ser#60019 I am wanting to rebuild the 40C to use on the farm, due to the poor condition of the MC, but I will need to use some of the MC parts. It all looks the same except the rear and the PTO area, I need to know are the rear parts compatible. I will be posting pics in a few days.

If nobody comes up with a better way of telling similarities, you could go to the online parts manuals and compare part numbers of the individual parts. Here is a link to the manuals

Engine, trans are different, undercarriage is the same for the most part, depends on serial number, finals are the same depending on serial number.

When using the model search function, you need to put in the number without the "C" in the model search field at the upper left.

For the MC and 40 model crawler (as well as the 420 crawler), the parts catalog is part of the tractor parts catalog. The parts catalog for the 40 series tractor is PC0862. The parts catalog for the M series tractor is PC848. Just type in "40" or "MC" and you will find both eventually.

Both are PDF only formats, but once you have the catalogs you can search for parts using the parts numbers in the catalogs.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help everybody, after going through the online manuals for both crawlers all the final drive parts are the same, as somebody posted, as this is where I would probably spend most of my money because the MC has been wide open and the 40C has been sealed except for the shifter cover has been open. I will post some pics. as soon as I learn how, I can fix almost anything mechanical, but this computer kicks my butt, I guess my thirteen old daughter will have to give me a hand.
