IF there are two handles mounted to the winch, that sounds like a Carco. 8A Gearmatic has no levers, 8G has one on the RH side.

Thank you for the reply lavoy. The winch has gearamatic drum winch stamp in the side of it if I could figure out how to post picture of it I could send it to you. It does have to controls on right side.

Only Gearmatic I know of with a shifter is the 8G, and there should only be one lever.
If you can send me a pic, I can post it.

The 8G should have one lever for engage/diengage on the winch and another lever mount on right side of the seat for the brake control. gregjo1948

If you rebuild a 430 or 420, you need deep pockets. If you rebuild both, does it mean you need deep pockets x2 ? :) gregjo1948

If you can get the engine freed up, try bumping the dozer into a tree or something that won't move easily. Hold the turning clutch back. I have also had luck freeing by holding the clutch and snapping the main drive clutch. The quick jolt will sometimes break it loose. It seems to work better in a higher gear. gregjo1948

My problem is the lever seems dead no resistance when you pull back on it only right side works. it steered good when we parked it two years ago. got any suggestions any help is real nice. if we need to tear down so be it, just looking for the easy way out. :D

If no resistance, the fiber discs have absorbed moisture and swelled so the pressure plate fingers are smashed down on the pressure plate frame. Only fix is tear down and replace. Be sure to check everything while you are in there, that is the time to fix whatever is bad.
