reverser

I used my 420 for about 6 hrs yesterday pushing back snow banks.From what I have read here, my reverser is the "gear" type.Occasionally when I go to back up (using reverser) the crawler would bind up when I start to let the clutch out.Put the reverser in forward position and move ahead a bit and then back up, reverser works fine.In the 6 hrs of working this happened approx a dozen+ times.Anyone got thoughts to why this is happening?Always works fine going forward.Thanks.

Could be brake band or something in the final drive hanging up. Try using the actual reverse gear instead of the reverser and see what it does.

Reverse gear in the transmission works fine.I've experimented with this and for sure its in the reverser.I've got to find a parts break down pic and maybe I can figure it out.Maybe Lavoy will have some ideas when he sees this post.Thanks.

Yes, I have had this happen to a crawler or two. I think a main culprit is wear in the reverser linkage. Look at your shifter lever down where it connects to the shaft. There might be a short 5/16" bolt and jam nut sticking out, that is kind of an overtravel stop. If you have one, shorten it up some so the shifter can come back towards you further and see if that helps.
