Is this a 440C?
Could somebody please tell me what I bought today. Here are some pics, I took this morning of supposedly of a John Deere 440C. and a blade that a friend of my Dads had in boat scrap yard. This was a parts crawler left over from a rebuild. He was going to sell it to a scrap guy to haul off, I ask what he wanted and he said what would I give and I said $200, he took it, was it a good deal? Now I have to get it out and move it to the country, and look for the rest of the parts for one. I think this one would work better in the country than my 1953 40C, but I have already started on the 40C.

I'm pretty sure that's a 1010 and a newer at that. I say this because of the flat top covers on the steering clutch housings. Also, since the shifter is on the top of the trans that would indicate it's a newer 1010.
I could be wrong.
Good luck, it doesn't look like you have a whole lot to work with, but there's plenty of 1010's around to get parts from.

There is no such thing as a 440C, they were 440ICs and no those steering clutch housings and finals do not look like a 440IC. Never seen a 1010C or 2010C. The 440I and 440IC were the start of Deeres Industrial Division.

Hi,
Yeah, I think it is a pile of 1010 crawler parts too. Well worth 200 bucks for sure.

Well I did what I should have done, by searching the number off the rear trans case, on Google #T13787T as seen in one of my pics. I found out it is for sure a 1010. Thanks everybody for the info.

Day late, and a dollar short the two crawlers are sold. I am looking on the forum somewhere somebody said that a 40C and the 1010 undercarriage is compatible. I only have one 1010 undercarriage but I have a 52MC that can use for extra parts for the 40C if I need them, so I may just push the 1010 in the bushes until I find some more parts. Can somebody tell me if that 1010 blade can be retrofitted to fit my 40C, and is there pictures

These threads will help you understand undercarriage parts interchanges between the early crawler models:

This one may "sort of" help you with the blade question, but to be honest I don't know and suspect that a 1010 blade wouldn't work with a 40C:

One of our members also made a graphical chart showing undercarriage interchange; the link to his chart is in the bottom of this thread:

Rails do not interchange, blade will not fit without extensive modification.

Hi,
Deere kept on making changes as the models went along, so most things don't cross from the earlier models the later ones......
