starter grinding
starter grinding
The starter on my 440 doesn't always engage and it makes an awful grinding noise.
I pulled it and the ends of the teeth on the starter are showing wear. fortunately there is little damage to the gear on the fly wheel.
The starter looks fine. Is there anything I can do or is a rebuild in order.
Thanks
Curt

What you are describing IS a bendix mechanism just not a solenoid activated positive shift bendix.

Rebuild the starter with a new bendix.

I stock drives, but not bushings and brushes, or have rebuilt starters available.
