Gearmatic winch

Post by 1010c » Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:41 pm

Hello everyone I just took apart my gearmatic winch controller it is the one made by gearmatic not the one by deere. I was able to get the two pistons unsiezed but I cant fiqure how to remove the main shaft that the conrol lever bolts onto. Also is there some type of seal on this. Also was it common for the two ends where the pistons to be damaged one has a crack and one has a hole.Thank you.

Are you saying there is damage on the head of the piston cylinders? If so, then the controller won't work. This unit is like two master cylinders end to end, controlled by the direction you move the lever. Holes and cracks will not allow the piston to build the pressure needed to operate the winch clutch/ brake. If you remove the cover, you should be able to see how to detach the guts and slide out the shaft. gregjo1948

There is damage to the out side of the cylinders but it seems the pistons are still working they will push out brake fluid. What i cant fiqure out is how to take the master pin out i took the allen head screw out but shaft still wont come out.

Did you detach the rocker arm that operates the push rods? gregjo1948

pinch bolt/ thick washer

Post by jim-e » Wed Mar 26, 2014 6:36 pm

If the lever is arranged like the one on my 40C, the yoke holding the two pushrods has a pinch bolt with a washer . Once the bolt is out if you carefully pry up the washer you can slide out the shaft. The washer indexes in the shaft lie a woodruff key. The control lever is attached like that also though on mine the washer broke off (and the rest is stuck in the slot.
