later model 4020 diesel

Post by lurch85 » Fri Jul 25, 2014 2:12 am

Every once in a while, (maybe 20% of the time) I have a heck of a time restarting my 4020 when it's hot. Doesn't give much if any smoke. (also have trouble when it's really cold, but I understand that's not abnormal for the old girl even when it was new)

My question is... I tried bypassing the electrical for the fuel shut of switch (have had some wiring issues with the old girl in the past) to make sure that it was getting power. How would you reccommend I go on with this? How would you test the fuel shut off switch for an intermittant problem?

4020 later model, syncrorange, shut off on front of pump, banjo connections bolts go down into the housing (not from the side)

Normally it is the solenoid if it is not a bad wire I think. We had trouble with one for years, usually the connection from the wire to the solenoid was poor or not making good current. If you can jump power to it, and it still bothers, I would guess the solenoid is bad.

Nothing I have, not sure I can source it other than Deere. Do you have the factory part number, I can do some digging.
