I'm looking at 810 jd track loader I don't know what yr? can any one tell me what possible yr an 810 could be? I'm only looking at pictures that I have I have been on the internet I don't see any 810's if so are they a good machine or or were they a problem child? I don't know anything about a dozer... I don't want to learn the hard way or pull my pockets inside out. thnx for your input bobz
an 810 is the loader on a 1010 crawler ( you or someone is looking at the wrong ser.# tag there should be another one one the engine ...right side or elsewhere on the tractor) so I would say you are looking at a 1010.... a 1010 would be 1960 to around 1965 ...find a pic of a 1010 loader online and see if that looks like what you have seen pics of.... if it is the "810 loader" in LIBERTY HILL on Craigslist that is a 1010.... here is the link ...is this the one you are looking at? .... http://austin.craigslist.org/hvo/4618761412.html
2010 with 622 dozer with mod. 35 ripper and a 2010 with 622 dozer bought in 1969 and a 2010 loader with drott and mod. 36 ripper
All crawler models can be a problem child if they are severely worn; conversely a well maintained one could be a gem. It's really not any different than other types of equipment or even cars or trucks. The knock on 1010s/2010s is that they had a limited production run and not as plentiful as say 350s or 450s so parts availability is a little worse. Also engine parts tend to get pricey. Having said that they can be a good little machine in good condition.
There are a lot of threads about inspecting and buying them, so I would suggest doing a little reading first. Just search for "buying 1010s" and see what you find; this one in particular can lead you to some good info:

(1) JD Straight 450 crawler dozer with manual outside blade; (2) JD 2010 diesel crawler loaders; (1) JD 2010 diesel dozer with hydraulic 6-way blade; (2) Model 50 backhoe attachments, misc. other construction equipment
The Texas Craigslist loader has grouser pads on a loader. The tracks are plenty tight. The one picture you can see most of the right sprocket it looks pretty worn, sure needs looking at closely. Just my opinion from the pictures.
