high temp trans fluid

Post by north country dozer » Wed May 20, 2015 7:52 pm

1981 450c... Noticed today after about 2+ hours of running her above 1500 rpms that my trans fluid gauge was going in to the red. Is this most likely an indication of needing to replace fluid? Thanks in advance for any replies[/quote]

Does the fluid look milky colored? Also, there is a cleanable filter down low on the right side, that is where the trans temp gauge sending unit is. I changed my gauges to show temp not just green, yellow, red.

Also, make sure the heat exchanger/radiator is not blocked or full of dirt. On mine it's the smaller one on the left if looking back through the grille opening. The screw on filter is right there as well.

160 - 180 Depending on the weather and what I'm doing with it. Engine runs at the same temps as well.

Thank you very much for info. My engine temp was running hot as well with the trans temp. don't know actual temp though only green and red on both gauges. I was not high into the red but just in a little bit so I lower the idle and it stayed right around the beginning of red mark. is that okay?
