engine swap for JD 450
JD 450, rops, rock guards, loader
jd450 straight with motor going down
I have a 450 straight that I just purchased.
When it gets warm/hot, the oil pressure goes to near zero at idle.
I feel like it is a short time before I will have to replace or rebuild motor.
Dittos for Transmission. 30-40 minutes of work and it starts shifting sluggish and acting as if slipping.
Any suggestions on my cheapest route out? I don't have a lot of money to spend. I have some mechanical abilities, but have never rebuilt an engine. Likewise, I've never rebuilt a transmission.
I pulled the hardnose off today so I can pull the transmission cooler and engine radiator off to get them rodded out. They are pretty dirty.
I'm going to change all filters and fluids, try setting pressures and linkages to see if it will hold together a little longer.
But again I think I am starting to look for motor and tranny rebuild or purchase.
Any chance I could find good used ones available?
Thanks

bad bearing in jd450 transmission
Before putting everything back together, I pulled the top plate high enough off my transmission to look down into it. the front bearing where transmission shaft goes through housing is shot. I can see part of the ball bearing keepers busted and at least 2 of the balls missing.
I suspect this is part of what is causing excessive heat, and there is probably more damage that I cannot see.
The man I got it from has agreed to provide the labor to rebuild the transmission if I pay for the parts. So I loaded it up and hauled it to him.
Will post later how it goes.
