440 icd air/drain tube
440 icd air/drain tube
I have read a little on here about the air drain tube behind the governer of the 2-53 Detroit.
Should this have air flowing through all the time? Should there be water coming out? Does it only come out when warm? Mine does not seem to have anything coming out.
Any info would be great. Many thanks, Jaybird

I think they will have air all the time, check and see if yours is plugged.

Hi,
I often find drain and vent tubes get plugged by mud dauber wasps....
Somehow, that seems appropriate on crawlers!

Glad you got it fixed. Yes it should have air all the time. In the manual there's actually a check to see if you are getting the right amount of pressure it off it.
Do you have any oil coming out if it. I have a "more than normal" amount that comes out of mine.

I'm not sure how much is normal. I think mine is more or much more than normal and I drip about 1 drop every other second. I need new blower seals possibly, but for the 3-4 hours a year I run it, it's not worth the $500 to do it right now.

Jaybird, the dozers and parts definitely don't seems to be as plentiful up here as in other parts of the country and canada. There's a guy on here "HowardYoder" that I got a lot of good parts from. He might have the springs you need. I used Lavoy for as much of the new parts as I could. I got some stuff from FarmerJohn. He's on ebay and from Georgia. I'm pretty sure he has springs listed most of the time. His prices are pretty high though.

the jimmie's design is to spit and slobber.
also, different oils have different results.
wear,heat,RPM
when they are warmed up they do better.
crankcase condensate has to work its way out and if it has sat for a long time you'll have more.
there was an old 6-71 in a truck we used to joke about,
'it ran best going wide-open,downhill on fire".

Hi,
We used to say 'tailwind'.
As in 'wide open, going downhill and with a tailwind'
The 2-53 equipped machines I used were 435 ag wheel tractors. They were used with the larger 3-string balers via the 1000 RPM PTO. Wide-nuts open. All day long.
Even the best shooting earmuffs weren't much help....danged Industrial Vacuum Cleaners....
Sure would spit out bales, tho.
