Determining early or late model 1010
Determining early or late model 1010
Hello all,
Another question: in looking through my service manual for my 1010 as I prepare for final drive disassembly and clutch repair, I realize there are slight differences in procedures for early model vs. late model 1010's. When I bought this machine years ago, the serial number was obliterated, so I can't use that for reference. Is there a way I can determine if it is an early vs. late model crawler by looking for various features/parts/etc. on the machine?
Thanks,
Drew

Dash shift is early, dry air cleaner is very late. 6 spline axles are before 31,000, and a few other things you could look at.

Reverser has no effect on serial number, and dash shift quit around 20,000, so still could be early crawler.

Ok, I was up in the mountains today and checked up on these items on the machine. The air filter is the oil bath type. The oil filter is a steel housing with a replaceable filter element inside. The fuel filter is a two-stage steel housing with replaceable filter elements in each housing. As for the axle splines, I am thinking I could only know the number of splines once the finals are broken down, as the splines are internal? Any other observable external clues that would dial it in?

Look at the inside axle cover, if it is about 1" thick, under 31,000, about 3" thick, above.

Cable was BEFORE 31000 SO yours should be between 31000 and 42000 ( NO cable and no spin on oil filter)Drew B wrote:The shutoff is the same lever as the throttle. The lever on the dash is just pulled down past the idle detente to shut it off. No separate cable shutoff.

1010 Final Drives
Are the final drives interchangeable between old and late model 1010's. I had a guy looking for one and all I found were old series ones by the part number. I did find some that didn't have a part number on the case in the pinion area, suspect they are late model.
I was going to bring them in the shop and check for differences.
