After getting my trans all rebuilt and steering clutches cleaned and reassembled I have been using the crawler for a little while now. I have noticed sometimes that the left track will slow down or stop when pushing hard. I checked the throw out bearing for the clutch and it is not riding the fingers holding pressure off the clutches. My question is there any burnishing procedure for these or just use them and they will wear in? The clutch steels were a bit rusty so I sandblasted them all when it was apart and cleaned up the friction disks as well. Everything looked decent and measured in spec when i was putting them together and drives fine unless working hard.
Any thoughts?

Any pics with the pack assembled? If not can you put it back together and take a pic or 2 of the pressure plate all tightened down ?Don't worry about shaft alignment of "flexing" the pack... Assembled is the only way to see what might be wrong everything i see here looks fine ... as for cleaning them i have done that as others have and it works great

What you show looks good. Is there a possibility that the pinion seal is leaking so that you are now getting oil on your refreshed clutches? As JT suggests, a picture of your clutch pack/final assembly may give some clues as well. Having rebuilt my final drives/clutches/brake bands this summer I've learned that there are a number of things that can cause the clutches to slip so you need to figure out what part of the re-assembly needs tweaking/fixing. Best wishes getting it sorted out - we've all been there.
Maybe my thread on my fix will be helpful

From the picture posted there seems to be no oil contamination. If you have the stack adjusted (clutch gauge) and the clutch slips you need a
new or rebuilt pressure plate.Lavoy has both gauge and pressure plates. JMHO,JimAnderson

Thanks for all the responses everyone. Unfortunately the weak pressure plate is sounds like the culprit. I know that there is no oil on the clutches as I just finished them and replaced all the seals. I did not have the gauge for adjusting the clutch fingers but I did adjust them so they were all even and i measure them off the the face of the drum. I do not remember what measurement i used. But, i did use the same measurement for both sides and the other side works fine.
Here is a pic of the assembled clutch. Everything looks good to me. Not that I have seen many others haha.
Here is looking at the throw out bearing adjustment. I would think that if i had the clutch fingers any tighter i would have ran out of adjustment for the throw out bearing since tightening the fingers up pulls them further away from the throw out bearing.
Lavoy, can you replace just the springs for the pressure plate? The clutch surface was good and the fingers are in good shape. I would like to replace them if possible. Can the pressed in pivot pin be removed and put back in and welded to hold it? Do you sell just the springs? If not, how much is a complete pressure plate?
Thanks for all the help!

From what i can see in your last pic the pack is looking great and as long as you have throw out clearance about the only thing left would plate pressure springs

No service parts are available for pressure plates. New ones are $125/each.

We are trying it get some heavier springs made so we can rebuild the pressure plates. This is a common problem with all deere dry steering clutch machines. Will get them in green deere, 350 and 450 once we get them figured out. My dad is now full time on shop work I'm there almost every weekend.
My dad found a bag of previously sourced springs for a 420 that we installed in a MC last weekend. Much stiffer than what we replaced.
We had a similar problem with a 450 last year and now know it was the pressure plate. Very frustrating re doing work so best to get a replacement pressure plate.

I don't know about a 420 but, I think my 1010 requires another clutch disc and metal ring.

Correct, 1010 has more discs than 420.
