1010 winch - all the same?
1010 winch - all the same?
I have a 1010 gas Dozer That I am looking to put a winch on. I Found a reasonably priced one that seems legit. Guy said it come off a 1010 that he currently owns and he has no need for it. All controls are available. I'm aware it may need some work like most old equipment
My question is - do all the model 1010 winches bolt up the same? I know there were early and late model transmissions and steering clutches - so I don't want to drive 8 hours to find this out...
Any help would be appreciated!

1010 gas crawler 6 way blade. New to me 3/2015.
My assumption is that they all do. Make sure it is complete, parts are hard to find.

Thanks Lavoy! Seller says its complete as it was all mounted up to machine when he bought it. He had to remove to do a steering clutch housing and didn't reinstall.
Only issue he knows of is a leaking forward control seal. Doesn't sound too difficult considering what I've been through with the rest of this machine.
Next question - Is $800 reasonable?

You didn't sat what make it is. Probably a gearmatic and there were 2 models that I have seen. One is all manual control and the other is hydraulic control. If it's the hydraulic, there is more that could not work and parts are hard to fine, and expensive. I feel, if you have work for a winch and it's in working condition, $800.00 is not a bad price. I'd try for $500.00 with the reason of not being able to see it working. JUST MY OPINION!

If a functioning winch, no, $800 is not out of line.

Hi: One more opinion. If it's a gearmatic 8a/g winch that is complete with controller (8a) and mounting hardware/ adapter housing, then the price is fair. Look inside (through the bung hole, or better, take off the side cover carefully), the clutch/ brake area to see how rusted and frozen the innards are - if reasonably clean, and intact you have a find. If ugly, you'll have your work cut out getting the system dialed in. Others on the board can weigh in here.
I can't comment on other brands of winch. Good luck with you winch addition
Btw, I can send you a .pdf gearmatic manual if you'd like, just email me.

The Deere winch to me has always looked like a Gearmatic, and I wonder if they made them for Deere. I have no proof of that, just a guess.

For $800.00, you can buy an electric winch. If you go that way, you'll probably want to convert to 12 volt system and use 2 batteries.

I have a hydraulic gearmatic that came off a gas 1010. It's part of my dad's estate and I'm the executor. Location is iowa, dismounted sitting on a pallet in his old shop. If you have any interest let me know...
It's funny, I came her to ask a Q about my 450 and been wondering what to do about that paperweight for the past 10 months or so.

This is a pretty good thread about electric vs. hydraulic winches; be sure to check out the links I embedded at the bottom of the thread.gregjo1948 wrote:For $800.00, you can buy an electric winch. If you go that way, you'll probably want to convert to 12 volt system and use 2 batteries.

Thanks for the info - however I don't think electric is the right option for the use I'll have with the winch. Like Lavoy states "it'll be in a bunch of little pieces" if I go that route. PSprague has offered a winch he has and so far so good. It's the 3315 model from a 350? - he's looking for the valve now. I've read where others have mounted these to 1010 machines and Paul is positive it was on his Dad's 1010.
I'll keep ya'll posted.

3315 will definitely not fit a 1010. He has a number 10 I believe.
