hydraulic questions
I want to remove stock JD hydraulic pump and replace with a front mounted pump. Can I just remove old pump and cover with a plate? And where can I get a splined yoke to fit the crank shaft? This is on my 420.
Thanks, Cooter
Thanks, Cooter
I have the cover for the cam pump, and might have a splined coupling for the front of the crank gear, but not sure.

cover
Thanks Lavoy,Is it a special cover or can I make one out of flat plate? My main objective is to increase the psi in my hydraulic system.Do you know a good size pump to use on the front? Not sure what the flow/psi is for stock pump.
Thanks, Cooter
Thanks, Cooter
Re: cover
May I ask 1954cooter why you want to increase the psi on your crawler? The factory psi is 900-950 with a maximum of 9 gallons per minute, depending on your throttle position, if my memory serves me correctly. Which is pleanty for these old girls!

If you throw the pump, you throw the whole system, you can not just increase pressure and reuse any of the old components.

Do you have a non factory attachment or something that is requiring more hyd flow or pressure?

Cooter, there is no need to install a higher psi pump on your 420 to operate the blade. The factory pressure your pump puts out provides enough pressure for the weight of a 420. I have a six way blade installed on my 420, and there has been many times when pushing a heavy pile of dirt and angling the blade left or right while moving, it would push my 420 left and right while never having any lack of power in the hydraulics. So having more pressure would not be needed. If your having problems with you valve just replace it with a new 3 spool valve, just be careful most valves relief range is from 1500-3000 psi. You will probably have to install a lower psi relief value before the valve like I did. Just make sure you do not set the relief above 1000 psi or you will damage the factory pump. Here is a link to another post showing which valve I used and the separate relief valve.
