Track work the easy way

I picked up a used track press from a local paper. OTC no longer makes them but the company that took the track tools over still makes the pins to push out 350 series pins!! Sure beats a hammer and torch!!

I don't know, I'm really starting to like the hammer and torch method. Of course, I've developed a significant drinking habit, I've expanded my Navy vocabulary tremendously, and I'm hard of hearing but I like to think I'm a better person for it.

Seriously, I would love a press like that. WTC still makes it as the Model MPP-100 but who can afford one? I'm guessing they sell them for about $8000 a copy with minimum tooling thou Lavoy would know better.

I think they quote me at least $8000 and that was many years ago.

Got it for 4500, it came with a ton of adapters, even stuff to do Mack walking beam bushings. The adapters for a JD 350 were about 350 from WTC. The older OTC ones are nice because they have Power Team hydraulic components plus you can remove the ram and have a general purpose 100 ton hollow ram. The new units from WTC come with a Ram-Pac pump and ram , we have one at work and it has not held up very well at all. Its only 2 years old and its been through 3 pumps and the cylinder is leaking.

Price

Post by CatD8RII » Fri Feb 23, 2007 10:01 am

Lavoy is right, the price varies a bit depending if you want an air or an electric pump. There is another outfit making them called Tracbuster? (i think). And their price is about th same.

Given the general attitude I have gotten from them in the past, I wonder how well they were to deal with on warranty, or did they just blame it on you?

I'm not sure about the warranty but,WTC wasnt that bad to me for getting the 350 adapters. I'm pretty sure they took the pump to the local Cat dealers hydraulic re-man center.(maybe that was the 2nd and 3rd problem?). The other thing is the press at work gets used by 6 or 7 guys, and most of them dont take good care of the press.
