Hi,
I was not using single quotes, but something was fouling things up there. I am not sure what.
My fear is that the engine compression is low to begin with. That will also make for hard starting as it will have trouble making enough heat to ignite diesel.

That was on my list of things to test, but will have to wait until the weather gets better.Stan Disbrow wrote:Hi,

There is a mechanical problem somewhere. A freshly rebuilt 2-53 with even the S series pistons will easily start with ether. With engine heater, will start without ether.

So I finally had some time to look at compression. The #1 cylinder looked like it had decent compression. I forgot to write it down, but I think first stroke had a little less than 200 and after a few cranks it was about 350.
#2 is giving me problems. It will barely move the needle on the compression gauge. I have tried cleaning the injector hole thinking it was not sealing up, but it did not help.
I have been wondering why the thing runs fine when it is running. I would think with virtually zero compression in one cylinder it would not be usable, but that is not the case.
Another thing I noticed is the end of the injectors seemed to have a bit of carbon buildup.
And I think someone has upgraded the injectors. I see a N cast into the injector body. I assume that means it is an N injector. Am I correct?
