Lavoy and all,
worked my 440 yesterday, good workout....got her really warmed up, pushed out a 10inch walnut tree and brush...and YES both tracks spin...
am running 5w30 in her and notice my oil pressure at lower rpm is running right at the stop engine line on gauge....that worries me...am i gonna need to pull the oil pump and rebuild it?? can that be done from underneath without pulling engine? and is timing involved, mark it where pulled to keep in time?? will that work? Or is it best to get back to straight 30 weight oil? I know i need to really check oil pressure with a better gauge....where is best option to check pressure? I also have donor that i could rebuild but if timing involved??
side note...my wheeled jd40 2 cyl book shows that these machines are supposed to operate at full throttle whichever gear....how do you folks run yours?
I try to judge what is needed so machine can handle load w/o bogging...i.e. not full throttle
thanks

Re: jd440ic oil pressure
A good pressure gauge would tell you if it is a serious problem. The pump may be fine... it may need bearings. I like using a straight grade oil in the older (maybe tired) engines. 30sae or even 40sae. I believe an engine will be OK if it holds 4-5lbs pressure at idle.

I would also check the gauge to be sure. I usually run a 0W-30 synthetic and have no oil pressure problems, so kind of guessing you have a gauge issue.
