I am rebuilding a 450b loader. I am test running the Engine and transmission with it on jack stands.
The sprockets and tracks are off so there is no load on it while testing. While running at
Low rpm (800) and the H L R in forwards or reverse there is gear noise but it goes
Away when I rev it up some. Is this normal?
I hope the low rpm noise is due to no load on the transmission. This loader was in pieces when I got it and I have never herd one of these run
So I don't know what to expect. I would hate
To pull the trans apart again.
I could make a video if that would help describe
What I am hearing. I was going to pull the trans top off but I thought I would get some advice before I do that

I don't know if the 450B is the same as the 350B but, a 350B has an isolator where you'd normally find a clutch assembly at the rear of the engine. This isolator assembly will, at low rpm, make a nasty rattling noise. Perhaps that's what you're hearing.

Re: What's normal transmission noise
Yep that was my first thoughts as well.
Strangely, I have a 350D and so it has the better isolator, but it still has that rattle once and awhile. To cure it I just rev the engine to full throttle, then back down and it will go away even at idle.
Funny these tractors...I got to name mine soon because it has more strange quirks then my wife Katie.

I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!

Re: What's normal transmission noise
I took a quick parts search for the 450B and could not find an isolator. The tranny noise must be something different.

Re: What's normal transmission noise
Hi,
The 350 with reverser uses an isolator and has no master clutch. The 350 without reverser has a master clutch. The 350 reverser was an option and sits in front of a standard gearbox. If you have a reverser, the clutch function in internal so the isolator replaces the master clutch.
The 450 has a totally different transmission, the HLR (High, Low (forward), Reverse). They have master clutches, which are not used for shifting the HLR. The noises will be different.
