Re: Blade control handle assembly
Hi,
The other option is to drill the holes round and make bushings.

Re: Blade control handle assembly
that is all well and good when you have pivot points and pins....my 6way on my jd440ic has the 3 handles on tubular rods and are pinch locked with allen head bolts.....are now slipping even very shortly after removing and cleaning shafts.....seems best way would be to ....somehow...file the flats where allen head tightens down to make more of a pinch on the tubular rods...but certainly is NOT enough room to get file in between the flats.
suggestions???
thanks

see previous post...
do any of you folks have suggestions on the pinch type? maybe i can use an abrasive grinding cut off blade that mite fit in the flats and shave just a bit??
all three tend to slip a bit.
LAVOY....any suggestions from your end?????
thanks

Re: Blade control handle assembly
Could you remove Allen bolts and drill into shaft to dimple (careful to not damage threads...maybe piece of thin wall tubing ) then grind a point on Allen bolts to engage the drilled hole?

Re: Blade control handle assembly
Not a factory setup, so hard to tell. Show a pic from the end of the shaft looking at the levers so I can see how they are mounted.

Re: Blade control handle assembly
Now I see what you have...The pics help.
Can you use an angle grinder with a thin disc and "slice" the bit between?
That would allow the two sides to pull together more and grab better....maybe?

Re: Blade control handle assembly
that was my thought as well. i just don't want to ruin the things. was hoping someone had run into the same issue and got it resolved. gonna be tough to keep surface nice and flat...though it sure should not need much off to pinch better. they are pretty tight getting on and off. i intend to try once i see what other answers may be.
thanks

Re: Blade control handle assembly
All ideas above are good. What about knerling the shafts. You could even use a center punch(many times) and use some red loc-tite on the shafts with reassembly.
When it was assembled was the split groove maxed out( unable to be tightened any more with the allen bolt)?

Re: Blade control handle assembly
Yes...maxed out..even put extension on my allen wrench
and as can see in pics....are actually 2 tubes and 1 shaft...i had thought about roughing up but don't want to mess up tubing.
ok, second thought...wonder if can score a line with tubing cutter, which kinda raises a bit of metal and a place for maybe blue loctite?????

side note....i edit my post to limit number of posts and keep story together.
LAVOY,
was a bit reluctant to widen slots as additional pressure could fracture the boss end - those allens are tough...and i think the set screw mite be an option if i can get it in correct position on drill press

Re: Blade control handle assembly
That's a tough one. Factory handle uses a roll pin and there is a groove machined in the handle and the tube or shaft that corresponds to the opposite side.
Not sure that just tension alone is going to do it, but worth a try. Hold the handles upside down in a vise and widen the slot carefully with a hacksaw.

Re: Blade control handle assembly
Another thought just struck me. Drill a hole perpendicular to the shaft/tubes and drill and tap for a small set screw. Use one with the serrated/toothed end. This would alleviate the need to cut the slot bigger.
