450c new trans
So I bought a doZer that had a new transmission, new everything inside including clutch packs, seals driveshafts and all bearings. Parked it after that and never used it , fallout with family. Sat outside for 10 years uncovered. Drained all the fluids, probably a gallon of water came out bottom. Ran fine, changed oil and adjusted clutch lever. After that never ran the same, checked pressure with guage getting 60 psi. Where do I start to troubleshoot it. It pulled fine until they adjusted clutch now it barely goes in slow in 1 lo.
Re: 450c new trans
Not an expert by any means but it sure sounds like clutch is slipping. Run for a little while in 1L and check for that infamous burning clutch smell.I'd also drop the belly pan and check the weep hole right behind the engine block and see if it's clear and if not ,clear it and see if oil is running out(oil contaminated main clutch). And how did water get into tranny? Should be sealed for water contamination as it's a dozer that can be stored outside.

Re: 450c new trans
Not sure how water got in it, sure just from rain and condensation seeping in. Well I got it working perfect, was the main clutch was out of adjustment. Works like a dream now.

If you live in an area where the temp changes significantly from near freezing to 40's low fifties in spring and fall you will collect water in transmission from condensation. In NW British Columbia where I live my crawlers accumulate +/- a quart of water a year in transmission if not drained. Final drives which are not vented accumulate nothing.

Hi,
Yup. Heating and cooling causes breathing. Water enters as vapor during cooling, then condenses, and....never leaves.

And again I learned something! I'm in Texas and on a BAD winter we might get a day or two in the 20's.Normally a few hours below freezing a few days a week and that's about it. Glad to hear it was just a clutch adjustment too.
