# 60 blades

Post by Seth » Mon Nov 13, 2017 4:53 pm

So I figured since I have to pull the track off my mc I would pull the blade witch I knew was a little busted up. But I had no idea it was tweaked pretty good. The mounting holes are all hogged out and look like jelly beans, someone must of busted the left side lifting bracket and replaced it with a solid homemade one. The long arms on the bottom were bent, straightened and then gusseted with 1/2 plate and welds that look like hammered dog turds. My question is..is it worth trying to find replacement parts, or should I fab up knew ones? I assume the linkage and such is just bar stock and nothing special. But the u bolts that hold the plow frame on are shot, and striped. Do you guys know if they make new ones?

Virtually no parts out there. I have a few pieces that I reproduce, but nothing to that extent.

Our local spring shop makes all their own u-bolts. I know these are a little different shape but if there is a spring shop in your area, give them a try. They may be able to help
have 40c 4 roller crawler, 1927 Ford T Touring car, 1931 Ford A Roadster, 1951 Standard Vanguard Saloon. Never a dull moment!

Thanks for the replies we have a spring shop in the area, and I guess I will order some bar stock and make up a new frame, I was thinking about boring the holes out and making bushings, but not sure if I can find the center of the original holes, it make a good winter project

The lift linkage holes may have already had bushings, can't remember for sure.

They do have bushings and are in decent shape, the long arms are the ones that are in bad shape, I think I am just going to make new ones, I have access to a mag drill so it shouldn't be a big deal

I ended up with the same issue with stripped u-bolts. I picked up some grade 8 bolts the same size and cut the heads off. I then cut the stripped portion of the ubolts off, beveled both halves, Mig'd them up on high heat, and dressed them up with a grinder. They ended up looking pretty good and took less than an hour. Not sure if they'll hold up over the long haul but if they break they break and I'll have some made.

Really an MC60 blade can be completely reproduced fairly easily, I actually looked into it years ago, just didn't think there was enough market to bother. Most of the parts are easy to copy, so that really helps on any repairs.

It looks fairly simple, I am a maintenance tech with an emphasis on weld/fabrication so the process isn't a big deal, finding time is the hard part

When you make the new main push arms, see if you can step up a grade in the steel. If you could get them flame cut out of some grade 50, that would be the ticket.

Wonder if cobalt drill bits will work,or if I have to buy carbide bits for grade 50 steel? I don't believe I have ever had to drill big holes in hardened steel

Regular bit will work fine. You have to get to AR before it really starts to drill hard. Turn slow, use coolant of some sort.

Where might one find a copy of MC Bulldozer OMF21-1131 which I think describes mounting instructions for the #60 dozer blade?

Thanks very much.
