Still chasing leaks on my new machine (non-crawler but a JD) and after hours of cleaning a fuel tank drip turned into a steady stream(dirt was slowing leak).Pulled tank and bottom is pretty bad, A shop here in my area knows me and knows I can braze but said in this case liner would be better since condition of tank bottom means another leak may pop up and tank is a bear to get out. Their plan is to vat clean tank and use the rubber epoxy pour in tank liner.$140.00 to clean and line.
Does anyone have experience with tank liner and does it last?

Re: Fuel tank liner opines
I have had several old tanks lined by Benson Radiator in Omaha, Nebraska. I only use them. The first tank they did for me was 30 years ago. Still perfect today. I have heard horror stores about bad jobs, both DIY and professional, that have separated. I think the epoxy liners are the best for crappy tanks that are not easily replaced. Bruce
Re: Fuel tank liner opines
Thanks Bruce. I have no experience with liners. If you are sitting down I did call JD about a new tank. $2550.00 plus shipping. That is beyond obscene. Fiberglass tank(new) is $550.00 plus shipping but even that seems high. Found 2 used tanks and both are rusted.
Will do the liner option and probably glass the bottom bad area just for added redundancy.

Not on heavy equipment, but I have used Damon Industries Red-Kote Gas Tank Liner on old motorcycle tanks with success.
O'Reillys carries it.
Google & see if it could help, not sure if you have/ how it works with diesel.

Hi Ron,
Been doing some checking on how liners work with diesel and prep(cleaning the tank interior) seems to be key to success or failure. Shop should have mine done this coming week so we shall see.....

Re: Fuel tank liner opines
Picked up tank from shop yesterday: no liner. When they vatted it bottom developed some pretty big holes and the shop ended up soldering on 2 patches and then soldering another 6 square inches on the bottom. With the patch I was unable to glass the bottom but they did a good lob and no leaks.Sprayed bottom with bed liner for added protection and installed it.No leaks.
