Case Backhoe Question
Case Backhoe Question
Anyone know of forum like ours here for case backhoes? My 580c broke a fitting on the dipper cylinder when I boom locked it to unload it off a trailer. I moved the hoses to bypass the hydraulics on the backhoe portion to get home but now I've got the boom in the locked position. I'm wonder if it's possible to pull the dipper cylinder with it locked or if I have to try and pull the boom back with come alongs and get it flattened out to pull the cylinder

Re: Case Backhoe Question
I have a '67 580CK and the only thing I know of is Yesterdays Tractor, either the Case or TLB forums. If you find anything better I would look at it.

Re: Case Backhoe Question
Try Heavy Equipment Forums. Also there is a site called Tractor Stuff. They sell parts for older Case machines. They don't have a forum but if you call and ask to speak to Dale he can help you. He is the Lavoy of Case machinery, what he doesn't know about them isn't worth knowing.

Re: Case Backhoe Question
I can second Dale at Tractor stuff. Very good to deal with, reasonable prices, new and used parts and very knowledgeable. Back to your question, to release the latch, could you use a come-along to release the tension? or back the dipper against a tree, then trip the release? I did a similar thing on my Case when I ruptured a hose, swapped the hose to pull the boom up and latched it to travel back to the house. I didn't need to release, just bought a new hose and swapped the hoses back.

Re: Case Backhoe Question
Thanks for the information!
I ended up using my track loader to push it up and unlatch it. I was surprised after it was unlatched I still had to drag it out, I assume because it was past center. I got the fitting out and a replacement and if it get's above 20 this weekend I might just put it on.....

Re: Case Backhoe Question
Just found your question. If you're still down but have the boom unlocked a messy way is to disconnect hydraulic hoses for boom and dipper at the manifold. This releases all hydraulic pressure to the cylinders. Then lock the brakes and lower the loader bucket and outriggers. Then you can attach a chain to the dipper bucket and with a truck or tractor pull back from unit till boom and dipper are both in lower position.
At the manifold oil is going to be gushing from the disconnected hoses and does make a mess. I use restaurant busboy pans: they hold roughly 8 gallons of fluid and when you put 4 together is a square pattern they will catch pretty large leaks(mostly catch...)
