I won't say no, but it is not a Deere.

Dad is getting fragile in his old age and it is time to clean out his storage shed. I will be picking up his 1937 Cat d2 dozer. (Cat says they started making them in 38 but Dad is sure its a 1937) Only the pup motor is keeping this old crawler from running. It had froze but there is an parts one so we will see what I can do. I has not ran for 12 years or so however, it has been inside the shed, always dry, since then. I'm not sure what to do with it once it is running, should I run this old dozer or keep it for looking at ?

Hi,

Use it once in a while for lighter jobs. It will bring a big old grin to your face every time you do. :)

You can always pull start it once you get some warm spring weather. Best to replace the sock type fuel filters, we have had trouble in the past on old caterpillars with them.

If you are going to change the starting motor make sure the magneto is working before you install the starting engine. Starting engines are fairly expensive to fix but well worth it. Does this have electric or rope start on the starting engine?

We are down to one D2 right now and been waiting to find a replacement front main engine cover. I do have a very nice D4 7U and we grade the yard with it a few times a year. Normally have trouble with rotten gas or plugged fuel line on the starting engine. It runs and starts well and has great power, however I would like to install a spare engine we have that starts instantly without either. We rebuild the starting engine, replaced the head gasket and rebuilt the main clutch many years ago.

It will be a treat to start it as it was in my family for at least 40 years before Dad got it. Dad had a good restoration done when he got it and never put more than a tank of fuel in it since then. Pull start on the pup motor. The pup was replaced with a spare as the original had frozen. It seems that the original is gone, I will know more when the weather warms and it comes home.

Just had a chance to buy a pristene looking partially restored D2 stored inside a garage for supposedly 20 years. It was part of a deal where I did buy a 450C track loader but the seller was extremely unscroupulous, uncaring, and basically just a royal POS, so I just got what I really wanted and left.
