450 hydraulic hoses
hi guys, I'm replacing a bunch of hydraulic hoses on my loader and backhoe today. do I need to bleed air out of them before final fitting hookup? with some of the hose run lengths it seems that an air pocket in the ram would not go back to the reservoir when cycled.

Re: 450 hydraulic hoses
I have never in 43 years bled a hyd.hose after replacement.Cycling will take care of it.

Shouldn't have to bleed.

Re: 450 hydraulic hoses
When the hydraulic system is contaminated the entire system gets contaminated: cylinders, tank, hoses, pump, everything. So when you drain the tank a partial volume of hydraulic oil is removed but it is also the majority of the oil(around 75 to 80 percent depending on machine). But,hydraulic oil also has additives to handle slight water intrusion.
It's a toss up as to what is best: I rarely drain cylinders and hoses when doing a service and after tank fluid and filter changes the new oil looks new after cycling the cylinders.
But I've also worked on tractors with extreme water intrusion in the tranny that required draining, diesel flush, fill with new oil, drain, diesel flush, drain again, fill with new oil and still had water residue.
Long way of saying that if you drain the tank, change the filters, fill the system, cycle it and if it looks good she's good to go.

Thanks guys,
cycled her a bit and fluid looks good (in garage) when warms up a bit outside will take her to task and see results.
