proper color
Got some questions.Getting ready to splash on some paint on my 420.Would like to know if gas cap,rad cap,air cleaner cap and valve cover breather cap, did they come green when new? Also did the seat frame come black or green? Also is the "classic" john deere paint that JD dealers sell, the correct shade of green for my machine? Thanks
Re: proper color
Lots of opinions on the subject.
Gas cap and rad cap probably zinc plated.
Breather cap green.
Air cleaner cap green.
Seat frame typically green, but have seen what I believe to be original set frames in black, but believe that came out on 430, but not sure.
Way too many arguments on the shade of green that is accurate, I use Classic myself.

Re: proper color
Hi,
My still-original paint on my 58 420c has black on the seat frame. The rest matches what Lavoy has said. Being a 58, it is a Phase-III, so earlier ones might well have had green seat frames. Mine has the oil dipstick on the right, which was changed for the 430. So, maybe the seat frame paint color was also.....

Re: proper color
Hi,
My starter and generator are green. The standard Delco color was black, so rebuild shops usually paint them black.
