Engine weight

Post by Cle Elum John » Tue May 08, 2018 10:55 pm

I need to to pull the engine off a JD 450() diesel. I did some searching and found the weight was estimated as 700 pounds? Is that correct? It sounds light. Can someone verify the ballpark weight for that engine?

Thanks

Sounds close. I pulled mine with a 1 ton chain hoist on an a-frame.

The engine on my 550 was a bit under 1000 lbs. I used a friends backhoe to lift it in and out.

I don't know the exact weight but I have pulled the engine from mine with a Harbor Freight 2 ton foldable car engine crane. I had to extend the boom all the way. Also the leg supports just fit between the tracks. It rolled easily on concrete with the engine hanging.

Thanks. I just pulled it last Thursday. I was thinking 1000lbs worse case. I rigged an overhead track and trolley. It worked well. After all the wiring and hydraulics were removed it went pretty quick.

In case any one is wondering, the clutch disk shattered at the hub as I suspected. I think it may have been some kind of aftermarket junk. Lots of broken pieces. The input shaft to the HLR looks good. Waiting for parts.

Thanks again for the help
