350B right track stopped moving

Post by stew1944 » Thu May 24, 2018 8:01 am

New ( to me ) 350B while pushing dirt, the right track stopped moving. The brake works fine and that's how I got it home. ( Back up with the brake on to straighten the machine, then forward as far as I could …. then repeat.) I found the master pin, but someone has welded it to the chain. I've ground down the outside, but the weld seems to go deeper. ( the left side is also welded )

Any ideas to my dilemma?

Clutch issue of some sort. Yes, the weld penetrates deeper into the metal, so grinding the surface doesn't really help. If you have a torch, cut the center of the pin out carefully. Make sure not to cut into the links. Once it cools, it may release enough pressure that it is easier to break the weld. Master pins are cheap, not worth beating your brains out.
I normally stock all of the clutch components for them as well.

Finally got it apart and the clutch disks came out in pieces. Lavoy, I'm sorry I didn't read your reply close enough, when I went to look at the parts listing it seemed to be all the older dozers. I've ordered all the parts I needed, but would have preferred to get them from you ….. next time.

Replacing everything in there, Son-in-Law is a heaving equipment mechanic and he got the master pin out. Sure don't want to repeat this again!
