JD 2010 Loader/Backhoe not starting
My neighbor has a JD 2010 loader/backhoe that im looking at buying ($1000) It ran last year and worked fine then what he described as the engine " sucking air and not running right.
the motor will crank over and produce a little smoke but not start or even cough. I have not tried starting fluid or a spray bottle with fuel in it to see if it will start or run. it has a Roosa fuel injector pump on it model DBG VC429---2DH
can anyone give me some trouble shooting advise on what to do next? Thanks paul

suspect you may have the 'mouse turd' problem...search posts with those terms ..pelletane/plastic part disintegrates causing problem

Hi,
When that ring falls apart it tends to clog the fuel return line from the pump to the tank. That fuel binds the pump and it won't inject enough fuel. So, one thing to do is pull the return line and see what is coming out. The other thing is pull off the timing window cover and see what is there. If you see little bits which look just like mouse turds, then you know.

Hello All, I looked at this machine yesterday to check the things you said, removed the return line and put it in a bottle and cranked over and no fuel came out when cranking. this unit has a priming pump which injects fuel into the intake manifold. I could keep the machine running by pumping the primer.
I removed the timing window and the fuel was under pressure and squirted out. Cranked again and the engine fired right up and purred for a minute then died again, again started to remove screws from the timing window and fuel was under pressure, I left the window screws loose and engine ran again from a few mins and died again. never had any fuel coming out of the return line.
Is this the condition you were discribing? what is the fix? new pump? total rebuild? are their rebuild kits available?
Lavoy, do you offer rebuild kits?
Is it possible to just clean out the clogged part of the pump? Thank you for your Expert advise Paul

yes is repairable...seems you will have to take it apart clean it up and replace the pelletane ring...Lavoy should have them or can advise you where to get. someone else that has done this will probably advise you yet...meanwhile try searching this site for 'mouse turds' and read all about it....

Hi,
If it kept running while operating the primer lever, that makes me think lift pump is bad. Did you see 'mouse turd' looking bits either out of the return line or under the timing window cover?

Hi,
Ok. Might well be the MTs have plugged the pump outlet. That as opposed to the line. If you saw some at the window, then that is most likely what is going on.
