I have a 420 crawler that has worked great, I let her sit for 4 1/2 years and now after getting her up and running the left steering brake is not working.
What do I need to check, how deep do I have to go to turn left again?

Re: steering brakes
Hi,
It is more likely the steering clutch is not releasing. The brake band has zero hope of doing anything if the clutched are not releasing.
To find out, you need a big tree. Ease the blade or bucket against it. Let the main clutch out in low gear and the tracks will spin in the dirt. Pull the lever and if it still spins, the steering clutches are stuck.
If you pull the lever part way back, so that the pressure plate is released, and the brake not yet applied, you might get them to free up. Many times, a rust coating on the steel plates will bind the steels with the fibers.
If that doesn't work, then you get to remove the final drive and dig into the clutch pack.
To determine if you indeed have a brake issue, when driving and you pull the lever and the clutch releases but no brake, the machine will drift in that direction.
So, a little steering means no brake and zero steering means stuck clutches.
