350 B Track
What's the best way to free up frozen track links. I have a few that won't budge with a sledge hammer and soaking with PB Blaster.

Re: 350 B Track
Thanks Stan, do you pour water on them and then beat them or just rotate the tracks.
Re: 350 B Track
Drive in a water hole or drive over a cheap blue tarp/pull up the edges/fill with enough water to cover the chain on the ground. Pull forward and repeat until the track is done. The use the track frequent. Best regards, Bruce
Re: 350 B Track
Thanks B Town, I will try that out when i get it back together.

Re: 350 B Track
I would have to wait a few more months for the snow, so I hope the water does the trick. Would heating them with a torch work too or is that not recommended.
Re: 350 B Track
DO NOT HEAT! They are hardened steel, you do not want to risk changing the properties of the steel by heating. Water is far and away the best answer. Sometimes you can use a power washer with a zero degree nozzle and shoot right at the joint of the pin and bushing and get some rust out.

Re: 350 B Track
Well I jacked the dozer up and made a pond and let the tracks turn for awhile but it didn't seem to help any. Does it have to be on the ground for it to work right. Thanks
Re: 350 B Track
How long is awhile? I suspect it will need to be longer. There is a lot of surface area involved.
Re: 350 B Track
Your previous use of PB may inhibit the action of the water. Does PB have a water dispersant property?
Re: 350 B Track
15 to 20 minutes. These are frozen pretty good, they won't budge when hitting with a sledge hammer.
Re: 350 B Track
It's been a couple months since the pb was put on.
Re: 350 B Track
I think I will try the pressure washer tomorrow. Then run for a while in the water. If that doesn't work can the pins be removed and replaced.
Re: 350 B Track
I have soaked frozen parts in a water bucket for 1-2 weeks, before they saw it my way. Pins and bushings can be replaced. Are the chain rails worth saving? Some cases make more sense to replace the whole chain, than to pay for track press time/labor. You could upgrade to a SALT chain with two piece master links. Oh yeah!!
