Ripper shank source?
Ripper shank source?
I've just adopted a 350C loader with ripper to keep my 350B dozer company. As with a lot of these I see, it's nearly toothless. Anyone have a source for the shanks? Need two to make the lonely one feel at home.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Yes, Email - leianclews@hltooth.com. Mine for my 450C would be around 250$ each with shipping. Haven't decided yet. I need 2 or three. My attachment has none.
Re: Ripper shank source?
However the one I was going to order, I would have to modify my ripper mount with eye (pin) inserts or bolts.
Re: Ripper shank source?
You can still get them from Deere, T66192, about $102, just for the shank, about $150 by the time you buy the retainer, tooth and keeper.

Hi,
I was about to make a comment about something actually being cheaper from Deere??? Then, I decided against it. Then, I decided why not say it anyway?

Re: Ripper shank source?
It seems very odd, but Deere is competitive on certain items, mainly bearings/races and GET (ground engaging tools). Of course there are the other items that they are ridiculous on, it's almost as if they jack the price up if they know they are the only game in town or people don't do homework. The track roller/front idler seals on the 350's used to be 170, now they're 270! ,and finally the after-market came out and made them. I think Lavoy has them for under 100$.

They tear you up on shipping (John Deere).
Re: Ripper shank source?
when I order any thing from JD I have them add the item to there stock order and I have not paid any shipping

Re: Ripper shank source?
Hi,
Yup. I do the same thing. The one I use stock orders on a daily basis anyway.
Actually, they usually have what I need in one of their 14 locations and so that gets me the part tomorrow. If they have to add it to their stock order, sometimes it is in tomorrow and sometimes the next day, depending. Plus, the parent company has both Green and Yellow dealerships, so as long I have a Yellow part number the closest Green dealer can get it from within.
I just never thought any part would wind up being the lowest cost through them. Not that it ever really mattered. I don't have a large number of things to get bits for. I am more interested in part correctness than I am cost. Man, I hate it when 'this is the part you want' winds up being 'this is the part someone else wants'.....
I only had to pay shipping once, and it was recently. I needed a drawbar pin for my 350C I recently acquired. The one which attaches the drawbar to the machine. It wasn't there because this was a winch equipped 350C from the factory, now minus the winch. I don't really need a winch, but a drawbar would do nicely. Turns out, the part numbers match all the way back to the 420c, so I got a nice drawbar from Lavoy. But, the crossmember and attachment differs, so I need the 350 pin. Which, BTW, shows up used on the 2010 wheel tractors. However, NLA from Deere, both Green and Yellow. So, the dealer went to a big boneyard outfit and they had one NIB. Nice. But, I did have to pay six bucks for shipping on the pin.

Re: Ripper shank source?
As far as the keep/retainer go, I just cut a "t" with a long down leg out of 1/2" (or was the 3/8" or possibly even 7/16") steel plate. The down leg goes almost to the base of the box. The cross of the "t" is wide enough not to slip down. Just slide it in behind the ripper shank. I have only a couple of hours on it but no problems with either the shank or the keeper coming out. I believe it works better than the JD keeper with that silly-ass retainer spring. Lost a couple of those things and they are not cheap. I will take some pics if any of this is not clear.
