Need to pull the transmission JD350C
I have a JD 350 C and I have a bearing completely destroyed in the transmission and it damaged some of the gears so I am looking at pulling the transmission out for repairs. I am new to the dozer world and wanted to know the easiest way to pull it out or should I attempt to repair it With the transmission in place?
Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
Almost nothing can be done to the transmission in the crawler, you need to completely remove it from the crawler, or at least split the crawler to the front of the trans, and remove both final drives.

Hi,
Yeah....they built these starting with the transmission and hung everything else off the front and each side. The one part no one wants to have to get inside of.

Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
It is possible to remove from the rear (done that) but not easy. If the tracks are sloppy you don't have to break them. Just pull sprocket bolts and lean tracks out. Will need a front end loader and helper to hoist it out.

Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
I had the pleasure of removing the transmission on my 350 two years ago because both the finals were lose and also the transmission I could feel the two sections moving and had issues with the splined coupling both tracks both finals left reverser in place as I had that out from the front a few years earlier

Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
I pulled the motor and the reverser out in order to get the transmission to check it out. I found that both bearings were bad on the input shaft and the 1st and 2nd gear cluster had some damage but that was it. The bearings for the PTO take off shift and the bearing on the shaft for the rear end we’re good. I was able to remove the shaft and bearing cluster, have parts ordered hope everything goes in as easy as it came out. If the repair is successful I will have rebuilt it with the transmission in place. I will let you guys know how it goes I hope you have the parts next week.

Hi,
If you need to remove the trans from the machine, both finals have to come off as they are bolted to the trans.

Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
Trans will come out with finals attached, that is not the issue. You said you had a large failure, and I said you will need to work on or rebuild the trans. There is no way to remove shaft from the transmission with the ring gear in place. There is no way to remove the ring gear with the finals in place.

Hi,
So, you leave all three pieces assembled when you pull one?

Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
If you don't have to do any final or trans work at all, like changing coupling, seal, prop shaft, etc., yes. If you are doing any in depth trans work, they have to come off sooner or later, sequence is up to the guy doing it. This also assumes you are pulling it out the rear, not tearing down from the front til you reach the trans.

Re: Need to pull the transmission JD350C
I was successful in replacing the input shaft, bearings and gears on the input shaft without removing the transmission. I was fortunate that everything else was in good shape and The bad bearings were the main issue. Got the Dozer back together, tested and everything seems to be working fine. I Appreciate all the Advice from you guys.
