Re: Nice knowing you-all!
Hi,
Right now, the river is at 20.5 feet at the Lillington USGS stream gauge. That is a foot higher than Matthew. And continuing to rise.
We just had a big old T-storm. So, more water. I bet the water level is up to the gate we have where the road drops off down to the bottom come morning. I took a pic this morning standing at the gate. That wasn't all that interesting. While the water was visible, backing up over the path from a runoff creek, it will serve as a comparison for tomorrow morning's pic.

Hi,
The peak occurred at 21 feet in the middle of the night. It has dropped back to 20 feet now. So, I would say that Florence is finally over here. It'll be a while before I can slip and slide in the mud down there and see what else there is to worry about. This is when I miss my old Army Jeep. That thing was a hoot in the mud.

Re: Nice knowing you-all!
Hi,
Now down to 19.7 feet. Took a trip into town and the water is about 3 feet below the bottom of the cross beams of the lower of the two bridges. Also took a rowboat into the flood. Both fishing cabin roofs and the pavilion roof are all that are above water. At least they are all still there. And, all the trees are still vertical (for now). It will probably take a week before we can get into the areas other than with a rowboat or a canoe.
I didn't risk taking any sort of camera in there. Sorry.

Re: Nice knowing you-all!
Hi,
The Lillington stream gauge says 8.6 feet this morning. The high was 21 feet and flood stage is 14 feet. So, we ought to have drained off the flooded area at our place. I will wander down there this morning and see what is up. Or, more correctly, down. And, take some pics. I have one from the high point taken at the gate. So, now I can take one to show what you couldn't see under the water.

Re: Nice knowing you-all!
Hi,
Pics. Finally.
This is at the gate at the end of my farm road when it was up:
This is from the same spot after it went down:
This is the old gate post. You can't see it in the other two shots, but it is just behind the power pole you can see. Note the height of the wet. And, now you know why the gate was moved and the road re-done.
Here we are at the river bank. Note how the bottom of the bushes are all mud covered. Yup. That is how high it was.
The distance from the gate to the bank is 1/4 mile.

Re: Nice knowing you-all!
I wish you guys in North Carolina would stop being so self-centered with the water; here you are keeping all the rain and we are dying of drought up here in Maine. There are springs up here that I have never seen go dry that are now dry, and you guys keep taking the hurricanes and then sending them out to sea before they get here.
(Obviously that is tongue in cheek humor, and you know full well that I am sorry for your onslaught of flooding. For years I have watched Everything Attachment videos, and know full well the economic state you guys are in down there from the repeated floods. My heart goes out to you).

I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!

Hi,
We were ok right around here, and probably will be again. We spent a couple weekends hauling critter food by pickup down Jacksonville way. They, hopefully, won't have a repeat. Flo was slow and dumped a lot of extra rain. Mike is expected to be moving Northeast and fast.
And, in the end, headed up thataway.....
