Woman steals Bulldozer and Crashes into Building
A topless woman stole a bulldozer and drove it into an apartment complex...or at least that is what the headline read. Apparently the bozo's that do reporting do not know the difference between a front end loader and a bulldozer because that is what she actually stole.
I swear, someday I am going to make it my life mission to send a silhouette of every tractor type to reporters so they know the difference between equipment. heck it should be required reading in journalism school. It does not matter if it is an excavator, grader, front end loader or skid steer, they all say, "a bulldozer". Occassionally they use the world steam roller, but that too went the way of the doo doo bird about 1930.

I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!

Re: Woman steals Bulldozer and Crashes into Building
Hi,
And, a bulldozer is an attachment. Can be on a wheel tractor as well as a crawler, same as for a front end loader as well as a backhoe.
Now, anyone ever use a rear end loader? I have, way back when. Mounted on a JD 60 wheel tractor. What a job that did scooping manure from the pile at the end of the barn and into the manure spreaders. Sort of like a backhoe with a boom which doesn't knuckle in the middle. I'll see if I can find a pic of one.....

True, you got me on that one.
I have a book called "Endless Tracks in the Woods", and it talks at length about the differences between "Crawlers" and "Bulldozers". I should have known "this young-fella" had a more modern view of crawler/bulldozers!
We have had some old equipment here, but no skip loaders or backwards loaders.
The Cole Transportation Musuem in Bangor is a neat place to go. They crammed their large building with 100% more than it could really hold. One piece of equipment is an old Thew gasoline front shovel. It is of the 1930 era if I remember right, but was a one owner machine, driven into place by the owner and gifted to the museum. (Link below shows a picture of it)
If people get up this way it is a great visit. It has a lot of stuff in it and privately held by a truck driving company that pioneered snowplowing and busting open Maine roads all winter to the most distant towns. They would talk about swapping out rear end differentials twice in the same storm...on the same truck. They just were not built for plowing stress at 30-40 below zero (f)...and that is NOT counting in wind chill factors. It gets cold in Maine.
BTW: We had frost on June 2nd this year!

I'll leave the keys in mine, just in case some topless woman wants to joyride in it.
It doesn't have much fuel so it won't be a long drive but it would be epic!

Re: Woman steals Bulldozer and Crashes into Building
Hi,
My old 2-cyl stuff has no keys. But they are safer because no one looking to use a key can figure out how they work.
The 350 uses a key, but has two starter buttons. So, there is a 50/50 chance they would use the one which blows the horn!
Stan
Edit: what I mean is that the horn button sports an icon of a crank and a piston and a rotation arrow just like the starter button does. So, both would have you think they are starter buttons. Push the upper one and it'll scare you with the blatt.

Mine starts with a key and the horn button. I think somewhere along its lineage, someone rewired it with fencing pliers, a dull butter knife and some torn strips of cloth.
Of course, it's different than anything else I have so you just go thru all the combinations to fire it up.

Those are just operator modifications until they get to using worn fencing pliers and then they become farmer modifications.
