Track Pin Diameter
Does anyone know what the track pin diameter is for a 450? The master is welded in and I will try removing the weld with a carbide tipped hole saw. I need to know the pin diameter to get the right hole saw.
Thanks

Re: Track Pin Diameter
Do you have the service manual for your 450? It should be in the spec section for the tracks. A 450B manual says master pin diameter is 1.3680 - 1.3690. Parts catalog shows same master pins are used in both, 450 and 450B. That is just the book info, no hands on verification to that info.

I just looked at an online parts manual and it was not mentioned. I do have a shop manual. I should have looked there. Thanks

Re: Track Pin Diameter
Hi John,
No problem. Do you have or have you used an Arc Air torch or the cutting/gouging electrodes available at most welding supply houses? The electrodes don't need a set like the Arc Air and will work on a regular welder of average size. Its a bit crude, but if the hole saw or grinding don't work for you those might. With a bit of practice, on scrap, you could get most of the weld without doing much more damage than the welding has already done; then finish cleaning it up with a pointed carbide bur. I would expect to replace the pin if I did this, as I would wash into the pin not the link.

Re: Track Pin Diameter
I was hoping not to have to burn it out. The hole saw is first choice. The grinder second. Using any flame or electrode cutting is a very distant third option. It does not sound like a precision tool. At least not in my hands.
Thanks for the help

Re: Track Pin Diameter
That settles it. Try the hole saw, use the grinder if needed, burn it out if everything else fails.

Re: Track Pin Diameter
Pretty sure you are just going to trash a good hole saw. Where the weld blends with the master pin will be very hard and you hole saw is not going to like it very much. Grinding is a better option, best is to burn the end of the pin out to relieve pressure so it comes out easier.
