Straight 350 brake.
Straight 350 brake.
I bought a 350 straight to clear a lot and cut in a driveway for a house. I'm glad I found this site and think it's great that everyone is so very helpful to us novices. I am going through it and performing maintenance items. I adjusted the steering clutches and brake pedal linkages as the the manual directed. When I apply the brake pedal the engine bogs down. Is this normal? It does have a reverser. Should I be pushing the clutch pedal in at the same time like with a manual transmission car? It did not bog down before the adjustments but the pedal went almost to the floor before it would do anything. After the adjustments it goes down about 2 inchesbefore the brakes grab. Did I do something wrong or was it wrong before the adjustment. I was wondering if the brake pedal also activates the clutches but since the engine bogs down it isn't activating the clutches. Appreciate any advice
Re: Straight 350 brake.
The brake pedal just activates the brakes alone... it doesnt release the steering clutches so what you seem to describe
seems very normal.. Good luck with it.

Hi,
Clutch pedal operates a hydraulic dump valve in the reverser which releases the internal clutch packs in both forward and reverse. Or, you can put the reverser lever in neutral. You need to do one of those before using the brake pedal.
What you had was out-of-adjustment brakes. It ought to have bogged down the engine to begin with. All is good now.

Re: Straight 350 brake.
If you have the machine in a driving mode forward or backward, the engine should bog down when you apply the foot brake. It would be like applying
the brake on a standard shift auto without pushing the clutch.
