Hi Nick,
Glad the Parts Advisor route worked for you.
The 450E manual (TM1330RE) shows 47n.m (35 ft.lb.) for the 3/8 manifold to head capscrews and the same for the 3/8 bolts that mount the turbo and elbow to the manifold. That is the same torque shown in the torque specs in the manual's general info section for dry grade "D" hardware. (Their "D" is grade 5, 3 hash marks on the head. Grade "F" is Grade 8 having 6 hash marks. Guess the industry standard terms aren't good enough for them.) Most manufacturers recommend reducing the dry torque by about 25% for lubricated, so 25 ft.lbs. would put you in the Grade 5 lubed range, by common practice. If you used Grade 8 capscrews the dry torque for Grade 8 was 50 ft/lbs., so 38 ft.lbs. lubed. You will be fine where you're at, I believe. How many 3/8 capscrews/bolts get tightened with out a torque wrench and how many of those are torqued more than the charts show?

Re: 555 exhaust manifold project
Jim,
You're right, though I've overtightened on the "spec", how many things have we tightened without a torque wrench ?
Again, I sure appreciate your help. Should get the turbo bolted on soon, need a couple hose clamps and a chunk of oil return hose for the turbo return line. Off to the JD dealer on Monday.
I'm sure I'll be back soon

Re: 555 exhaust manifold project
It is my experience the adapter (R43724 I believe) between the turbo exhaust and elbow is often worn out. This adds to noise and exhaust under the hood. You have come this far on this project, it might be worth replacing will you are in it. Best regards, Bruce
Re: 555 exhaust manifold project
Thanks B Town,
I've not bolted the turbo down yet, going to replace a couple hoses and clamps, They're pretty "crunchy". Thanks for the tip on the adapter, I'll take a close look at it. It appears solidly sealed/attached to the turbo, no movement at all visible between parts.
Have a great New Year,
Nick
